Skills & Raids Map Areas & World Guide
Navigate zones, nodes, extraction routes, and elite encounters with Shelldon, Clawrk, and Owlivia.
Skills & Raids launched on Steam on July 27, 2026 as a party-based extraction RPG. You lead Shelldon, Clawrk, and Owlivia across a handcrafted dark fantasy world where memory and matter fade. Understanding the map — where fights happen, where you heal, and where you leave — is as important as mastering combat. This guide explains every major area, service node, and difficulty step so you can plan safer runs whether you play the full release or the still-available demo.
World Overview
The overworld in Skills & Raids is not a single linear dungeon. It is an open field of connected combat zones, each with its own enemy roster, material drops, and quest hooks. You choose a destination from the map, travel to an entry node, and fight through rooms until you decide to extract, send loot home, or push into a harder region.
The full game ships with 21+ quests that send you to specific areas, while the demo offers 11 quests across the same core zones. Both versions share the same extraction loop: enter with gear, fight in real time with pause support, loot resources, and exit before a wipe costs unprotected inventory. If you are brand new to movement, pause, and party roles, read the Getting Started guide before routing deep into hostile territory.
Zones are designed as risk-reward layers. Shorter paths near your base teach mechanics; distant regions trade longer fights for better crafting mats and quest progress. The map UI marks combat areas, healing nodes, extraction points, and sendback stations — learn those icons early so you never wander without a planned exit.
The Sinking Graves
The Sinking Graves is the primary early-game combat area and the zone most players visit first. The environment is swampy and oppressive: bone-strewn ground, hopping scavengers, and undead-adjacent creatures that punish slow rotations. Enemy density is moderate, which makes it ideal for learning Shelldon’s taunt timing and Owlivia’s sustain without facing endgame spike damage.
Material drops here skew toward baseline crafting inputs — common hides, bone fragments, and early quest components. Several main and side objectives in the Quests hub send you back to cull specific enemy types, such as the hoppers that steal remains from local NPCs. Treat The Sinking Graves as your training ground: complete tutorial-adjacent fights, bank your first successful extraction, and only then commit to longer routes.
Because this zone sits at the bottom of the difficulty ladder, it is the safest place to practice elite approach routes. Identify which rooms spawn elites, note the nearest healing node, and rehearse your retreat path before you need it under pressure.
Cold Peaks
Cold Peaks is the second major combat region and a step up in environmental pressure. Frost-themed enemies, tighter sight lines, and materials such as frost fiber and rune fang pelts make it the natural follow-up after you stabilize runs in The Sinking Graves. Clawrk benefits especially from flanking snowbound melee targets, while Shelldon must watch for chill debuffs that slow repositioning.
In demo version 1.4.8.1, developer Storypaintings reduced difficulty in both The Sinking Graves and Cold Peaks to smooth the learning curve. Fewer punishing burst windows and tuned enemy pacing mean new players can experience Cold Peaks without the harsh spikes seen in earlier demo builds. If you last played an older demo patch, revisit Cold Peaks — it is more forgiving while still teaching mid-zone resource management.
Cold Peaks remains a mid-tier zone in the full Steam launch. Expect tougher elites than the swamp, better Uncommon drops, and quest lines that require gear crafted from materials found in both regions. Pair a Cold Peaks push with a sendback stop so you do not carry a full inventory through the hardest rooms.
Healing Nodes
Healing nodes are interactive map stations that restore party resources between fights. As of demo v1.4.8.1, entering a healing node restores 50% of your Health and 50% of your Mshard — the resource tied to ability costs and sustain across your trio. That half refill is enough to recover from a sloppy pack but not enough to ignore combat fundamentals.
Use nodes deliberately. After clearing a room with moderate damage, a node lets you continue without burning Owlivia’s emergency cooldowns. Before an elite or a quest boss, consider visiting a node even at full health so you enter with refreshed Mshard reserves. Nodes do not replace extraction: if your safe pocket holds rare mats and party health trends downward across two fights without a node nearby, retreat toward an extraction point instead of gambling on a third engagement.
Healing nodes appear on the map alongside combat zones. Plan routes that chain fight → node → fight → extract, especially when tackling objectives from the Quests page that require multiple kills in one run.
Extraction Points
Extraction points are your guaranteed exit. Interacting with one ends the run successfully and banks all non-death-lost loot into your stash, triggering crafting and quest turn-in at base. Unlike sendbacks, extraction removes your entire party from the field — you cannot continue farming after extracting.
Place extraction planning at the center of every route. Before entering a new area, locate the nearest extraction point relative to your quest target. If the path crosses an elite guard room, decide in advance whether you will fight or loop around. The dedicated Extraction guide covers safe pocket timing, inventory pressure, and when to leave with partial progress — apply those rules here with map knowledge.
In The Sinking Graves, extraction points tend to sit closer to entry nodes, which supports early learning. Cold Peaks placements often require clearing an extra room, raising the cost of greed. Always identify your exit before engaging optional elites.
Sendback Points
Sendback points let you ship collected loot to your stash mid-run without ending the expedition. When Shelldon’s inventory fills with ore, pelts, and quest items, detouring to a sendback station clears bag space so you can keep fighting toward a deeper objective.
Sendbacks carry risk. The detour consumes time, additional encounters, and party resources. Use them when your inventory holds valuable Uncommon or Rare materials you cannot fit in the safe pocket, or when a quest requires you to stay in-zone after a large haul. Do not sendback for Common trash if an extraction point is two rooms away — extract, craft, and re-enter fresh.
Combine sendbacks with healing nodes when possible: drop loot, refill 50% Health and Mshard, then push toward the next quest marker. This rhythm is how veteran players complete multi-step objectives in the full game’s 21+ quest campaign without dying to inventory greed.
Area Difficulty Progression
Skills & Raids escalates difficulty through zone design rather than invisible level scaling alone. The recommended progression for launch day and demo players:
- Tutorial and first extraction — Learn pause, skills, and safe pocket basics.
- The Sinking Graves — Common materials, low elite density, forgiving layouts after v1.4.8.1 tuning.
- Cold Peaks — Uncommon mats, chill mechanics, longer paths between services.
- Deeper launch zones — Rare drops and quest chains that assume crafted Uncommon gear from both starter regions.
Skipping steps wastes runs. Entering Cold Peaks without Shelldon at least partially geared from Sinking Graves farms usually ends in wipes that forfeit unprotected loot. The demo still available on Steam mirrors this ladder with fewer quests but the same area logic — use it to practice routing before buying the full release.
Watch the Updates page for balance notes. Launch patch 1.0 and demo v1.4.8.1 both adjusted early-zone difficulty, so older community advice may no longer match current enemy damage.
Elite Encounters
Elites are oversized enemies or mini-boss packs with higher health, unique mechanics, and better drop tables. They spawn in fixed or semi-random rooms within The Sinking Graves, Cold Peaks, and later regions. An elite can drop skill fragments, rare crafting components, or quest items required for main story progression.
Approach elites with pause-first discipline. Open pause, read telegraphs, assign Shelldon a defensive cooldown, pre-position Owlivia for line-of-sight heals, and only then commit Clawrk’s burst. Never engage an elite without knowing the nearest healing node and extraction path — elites drain Mshard faster than standard packs.
In early zones, treat your first elite as a milestone: defeat one using planned cooldowns, extract with the drop secured in your safe pocket, and craft before hunting the next. Elite mechanics scale with zone tier; a Cold Peaks elite hits harder than a Sinking Graves counterpart even after difficulty reductions.
Planning Your Next Run
You now have a mental map of Skills & Raids’ world layer: starter swamp, frost peaks, service nodes, and exit infrastructure. From here:
- Getting Started — Controls, party roles, and first extraction
- Extraction — Safe pocket, timing, and risk management
- Quests — Main, side, and daily objectives tied to each zone
The demo remains free on Steam if you want to rehearse routes in The Sinking Graves and Cold Peaks before the full 21+ quest campaign. Map literacy turns random wipes into learning runs — extract early, mark your nodes, and push deeper only when Shelldon, Clawrk, and Owlivia can survive the next room together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which area should beginners enter first?
Start in The Sinking Graves. It has the lowest difficulty, teaches core combat loops, and sits closest to early extraction points after the v1.4.8.1 balance pass.
How much do healing nodes restore?
Healing nodes restore 50% of your party Health and 50% of Mshard when entered, as updated in demo v1.4.8.1.
What is the difference between extraction and sendback points?
Extraction ends your run and saves all loot to stash. Sendback points ship inventory items home mid-run so you can keep fighting in the same expedition.
Was Cold Peaks difficulty reduced?
Yes. Demo v1.4.8.1 reduced difficulty in both Cold Peaks and The Sinking Graves to help new players learn mid-zone routing without harsh spikes.
How many quests use these map areas?
The full Steam launch includes 21+ quests across all zones. The free demo includes 11 quests focused on the same core areas, including Sinking Graves and Cold Peaks.
